Tran Dinh Truong

On September 11,2001, when we first saw the live coverage pictures on television, and then the breaking news of the "terrorist attacks," we were all shocked, and emotionally terrified to see people affected by this terrible situation. I saw people trying to escape for their lives and it reminded me of experiences in my past. I left Vietnam with my family in 1975, leaving behind all our assets and more importantly, our ancestral graves. There were so many people desperate to escape and so much confusion, so I sent ships to Da Nang, Qui Nhon, Nha Trang and Cam Ranh to help Vietnamese and Americans leave. These were dangerous missions, but we felt we had to do it out of goodwill and humanity, even though the communist government retaliated unmercifully against my most loving family.

So many years later, when I saw New York attacked, we were all stunned by these tragic events. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and everyone affected by this terrible situation. We want to support the recovery effort in every way that we can. I immediately donated as much as I could to help the victims' families, and to show my gratitude and my support to the country that helped me rebuild my life and my business. I have worked hard for my success and use the money to help the unfortunate others.
